Padel Racket Care Guide: Overgrips, Heat & Storage Tips (2026)

Gear Care Guide

A good padel racket isn't cheap, and a little care goes a long way. Here's how to keep your racket playing like new, from fresh overgrips to keeping it out of the heat, plus the grips and thermo bags we stock to help.

Why Racket Care Matters

Most padel rackets are built around an EVA or foam core inside a carbon or fiberglass face. Those materials don't love extreme heat, hard knocks on the ground or glass, or a sweat-soaked handle. A few simple habits help your racket keep its feel longer and protect your investment.

1. Keep It Out of the Heat (and the Cold)

The single biggest mistake we see: leaving a racket in a hot car. Heat can soften the foam core and the resins that bond the face, and big temperature swings stress the frame. Instead:

  • Bring your racket inside after you play rather than leaving it in the trunk.
  • Store it at room temperature, away from direct sun and heaters.
  • Use a bag with a thermal-insulated racket compartment for the drive to and from the court.

2. Change Your Overgrip Regularly

Your overgrip soaks up sweat every session. Once it feels slick, flattened or starts to fray, it's time for a new one. A fresh grip means less squeezing, better control and less strain on your wrist and forearm. Players on court several times a week usually swap far more often than casual players, so buying a multi-pack saves money.

Wrap from the butt cap upward with steady tension and a small overlap, then finish with the included tape.

3. Protect the Frame and Face

  • Avoid scraping the racket on the turf when picking up balls or hitting low shots.
  • Never bang it against the glass, fence or ground. Cracks often start from small impacts.
  • Use a frame protector tape along the top edge if you play a lot of low balls.
  • Wipe off sand and moisture after playing, and let the racket dry before zipping it away.

Padel Racket Care FAQs

How often should I change my padel overgrip?

Whenever it feels slippery, worn or compressed. Frequent players change grips much more often than once-a-week players.

Can I leave my padel racket in the car?

It's best not to. Heat can damage the foam core and the materials that bond the face. Bring it inside, and use a thermal bag in transit.

How do I clean a padel racket?

Wipe it down with a soft, slightly damp cloth after playing to remove sand and sweat, then let it dry fully before storing.
